Here's how you do it

You know the ordinary way of politics...:

There's talking.
Then there's pleading.
There's accusing.
There's blackpainting.
There's swearing of revenge, and mocking the competitors.

And then, of course, there are honesty, accountability, and maturity. In short, something like this...

Something that, to me, confirms my believe in Obama. I mean, just look at the way he crafts his argument.
Finally, an adult at the helm. It took long enough. In Germany, things are going to take a few years (decades; centuries) longer, I'm afraid. Well, at least that's what taking a closer look at our current political personnel implies.
I mean, imagine Merkel delivering a speech like that (hahaha!) in front of the parliamentary group of CDU/CSU (ahaahaahahaha!) - can't? Yeah, neither can I.

Cheers.

A New Time

His latest speech as captivating as the others, the promise renewed, the tale for the years to come set. An apparently considerate, mature human being at the helm of earth's still mightiest and most promising nation. His speech in particular managed to inspire even me, and hell!, I'm not even an American.
Why couldn't everything be so promising, so spellbound, and yet so innocent as this day in Washington, D.C.?
The realisation dawning only later: Perhaps the re-birth of a nation. And hopefully so.

Know what you got

And outside of specific policy measures, two years from now, I want the American people to be able to say, "Government's not perfect; there are some things Obama does that get on my nerves. But you know what? I feel like the government's working for me. I feel like it's accountable. I feel like it's transparent. I feel that I am well informed about what government actions are being taken. I feel that this is a President and an Administration that admits when it makes mistakes and adapts itself to new information, that believes in making decisions based on facts and on science as opposed to what is politically expedient."
That is why I'm so relieved about the Obama-win. Because this is the most reflected take on what politics should be about I've heard from any politician, ever.
